ISO 15189 Medical laboratories — The standard was developed by the International Organisation for
Standardisations's Technical Committee 212 (ISO/TC 212). ISO/TC 212 assigned ISO 15189 to a working group to prepare the standard
based on the details of ISO/IEC 17025:1999 General requirements for the competence of testing and calibration laboratories. This working
group included provision of advice to users of the laboratory service, the collection of patient samples, the interpretation of test
results, acceptable turnaround times, how testing is to be provided in a medical emergency and the lab's role in the education and
training of health care staff

want to bring a something to read and a snack so you can eat something immediately after the test. Here are answers to some commonly
asked questions about fasting. Can I drink water? Yes, you may drink small amounts of water. Should I take my medication? Yes, you
should take any medication which has been prescribed to you by your doctor unless your doctor tells you not to. Can I drink juice?
No.Can I drink coffee or tea? No. Can I chew gum? No. Can I smoke? No. Smoking can affect your test results. Can I exercise? No. Exercise

Preparing for your Blood test
Your doctor will inform you if you need to prepare for a test. Please carefully follow the directions
given. If you're nervous about having your blood taken, or if this is your first blood test, please feel free to tell our lab technician.
We want you to feel as comfortable as possible. Please feel free to ask questions if you do not understand. If the person taking your
blood had trouble the last time, please tell the technician. Our staff are trained and will do their best to make your appointment
run smoothly. We follow strict safety guidelines- Needles, tubes, and holders are only used once and discarded.
Test Results
The time it takes to process test results varies according to the test. Some tests may take several weeks to receive
results. Note that we will only release test results directly to your doctor. Also, we cannot answer questions about why your doctor
ordered your specific tests. You should always ask these types of questions to your doctor.
